A View from the Kiosk

Started off as a cloudy and kind of cool day, but the sun came out towards the end of the shift. Summerstage was a Taiwanese and Mandarin concert, so a lot of Asian people visited. I also did a lot of racial profiling. Meaning, if an Asian person approached, I assumed they wanted to go to the concert, so began to give them directions, when in fact, they didn’t even know there was a concert. 100 maps and 150 conversations later.........

best question: This one has to go to the hot guy who asked me where he could find oral sex in the park.

best interaction? “Where do I return my rental bike?” “Where did you rent it from?” “I don’t know” “Was it in the park, or out of the park?” “I don’t know.” “When you rented it, did you see trees or tall buildings?

most annoying” A repugnant man with his ugly family. -”Why don’t you get a map, they’re free” ( to his ugly child) -”Give me a free map” (to me) -”Here” -”Give me four more” -”One per group, that’s how we keep this free” -”Give me four, we are a big group”

most frequent question? Yesterday, it was not a question as much as a gesture. The visitor approaches me and the kiosk and holds out the hand, gesturing me to place a free map in the palm.

Annoying funniest? The man who walked by and said. “Smells like urine here” funny because I am so used to it. most friendly? The foreign man who came back to the kiosk, handed me his map and said, “Can I give it to you back, and not throw it?

best visit? Tom and Johnny of course!

idiot question? “Do you know where Central Park is?” No sir, this is not the borscht belt.

nastiest? “Do you know where Bafeeda is?” “Yes, Bethesda Terrace is 5 minutes from here, follow this sidewalk.” “No, I just came from there” “Ok, that’s where it is” “Forget that, where is Rockefeller Plaze” “Do you mean The Plaza Hotel” “Yes, tell me that and and then tell me Rockefeller”

I helped 250 people and gave out 90 maps.
