#1 best question
“How do I get to Central Park East?”
--“Do you mean 5th Avenue?”
“NO! I said Central Park East!!
#1 most asked question
“Where is the nearest bathroom?”
--”Where are you planning on going after you use the bathroom?”
“Just tell me where the nearest bathroom is!!”
Just as a note, the reason why I ask this post bathroom question is that there are a few choices when it comes to bathrooms, so I like to point them to one based on their destination. Most people don’t care for this follow up question........
most annoying:
A woman comes up to the kiosk and looks at the map. I say, “Hello” and she says, “Thank you, I’m just getting my bearings” After staring at the map for over 5 minutes, and turning her body in various directions, she finally says to me, “Where are we?” PS: The map has a large “You are here” on it.
best interaction
As any of you who have visited the park know, there are a lot of petty cab drivers around who charge a ton of money to take tourists around the park. I do prefer them to horses. I hate seeing the horses and carriages and I am stunned that anyone finds that romantic. Anyway, most of the petty cab drivers are college students from overseas and I have had great interactions with them, but it annoys me if they use the vicinity of my kiosk to solicit rides. Yesterday, one of them was standing right in front of my kiosk. He had very broken English and was badgering two girls that they should ride around with him. He didn’t make the sale and as he walked away, gave me a big smile. At this point, I said, “Please not in front of my kiosk” He continued walking and let out a very loud and accented “Go fuck yourself, man!” I guess they are teaching these expressions in College ESL classes.
